The late Gianni Versace founded the Versace fashion house in 1978 in Milan. A designer who made the world his stage, Versace's extravagant personality was materialized in curve-hugging bias cut dresses and bold color palettes that were worn by anyone and everyone expecting to have their photo taken on the red carpet. He was also known for his marketing genius, turning nameless models into international superstars and regularly recruiting celebrities for his campaigns. Following his death in 1997, Gianni's sister Donatella took control of the global fashion empire.
