Unable to find the perfect chic, stylish, yet utilitarian handbag in early 90s New York City, the former Mademoiselle accessories editor set out to create her own signature line. Born Katherine Noel Brosnahan, she launched her line in 1993 under the name "Kate Spade Handbags" with designer husband Andy Spade. She opened her first shop in 1996 and has since extended her brand to include everything from clothing and jewelry to stationary and home décor.
