French designer Hubert de Givenchy founded the Givenchy fashion house in Paris in 1952. Perhaps best known for dressing legendary actress Audrey Hepburn in such films as Breakfast at Tiffany's and Sabrina, he has been acclaimed as the first designer to create a collection of luxury ready-to-wear. Hubert de Givenchy stayed at the label until his retirement in 1995; included among his successors are John Galliano and Alexander McQueen.
"The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress."
