Chloé was founded in 1952 by French designer Gaby Aghion, with a vision to create upscale ready-to-wear, an unfamiliar concept in 1950s France. In addition to pioneering the "luxury prêt-à-porter" movement, the fashion house is known for launching the careers of young designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo.
