In Céline's original incarnation it was a Parisian made-to-measure shoe shop opened in 1945 by Céline Vipiana. In 1969 Vipiana designed a ready-to-wear collection, turning Céline into the luxury fashion house we know today. Elegant yet practical, Céline's brand of city-girl chic has attracted a number of notable head designers since Vipiana left in 1997, including Michael Kors and Phoebe Philo.
"Women realized that the Céline fashion was comfortable and practical. The woman who travels can brings two light things in a suitcase and these things will keep being clean and flawless."
