In 1968 American fashion designer Calvin Klein started selling coats and dresses out of a makeshift showroom in New York City's York Hotel. In 1972, the line expanded to a full range of women's sportswear followed by menswear in 1978. Dubbed "locker-room lingerie," Calvin Klein's underwear line for men debuted in 1982 to such great success that a line for women soon followed, making history as the first ever designer-branded undergarments.
